A call to support, THE LEGEND OF THE SPEAR AND THE BEAD TO APAA

Located in Northern Uganda, Apaa is a place rich in history, culture, potential and resilience. The conflict in Apaa has however become inevitable and a fact of life. Frequently, contentious issues and disagreement between the conflicting parties has resulted into chaos and violence from the micro interpersonal levels involving the Madi ethnic group of Adjumani, Lamogi/Pabbo tribes of Acholi in Amuru, to interpersonal levels through to groups, politicians, and neighboring communities. This conflict is deeply rooted and visible and requires actions to be taken to address both the root causes and visible effects. The casual factors of this dispute can be best explained within the context of community relations and identity theories, it is often rooted in unresolved past loss and suffering. In the face of hardship, stories remain a powerful tool, stories that question the cause, evoke, inspires hope and heal wounds while preserving traditions,

The Legend of the Spear and the Bead, The legend of the spear and the bead is the story of Gipir(Nyipir) and Labongo(Nyabongo), it centers around the spot where these Luo ancestorial brothers separated after a bitter dispute (West Nile and Northern side of the Nile) deeply rooted in Luo traditional dances and contemporary dance, this 50 minute performance re-imagines the past, rewrite the future while undoing the folded sorrows behind “identity, royalty and leadership” in to greater sense of “community, leadership, justice and fair play”, it evokes and inspire unity, love, and communal resolution of problems. These themes resonate strongly with the entire community of Northern Uganda. Performing this at Apaa presents this powerful performance to the heart of the community, giving them not just entertainment and cultural revival, but a reason to live in harmony and not to fight over land.
